With over 20 years of experience, The Alternative Window Company specialise in maintenance free wooden sash windows, sliding and hinged doors. We have become the leading provider of made to measure timber sash windows with hundreds of installations across London, Chester, Oxford, Bath, Cheltenham, & Cirencester. All our wooden windows and doors are created by our skilled craftsmen and are virtually maintenance free.

Established in 1995 by John Tomlinson, Alternative Windows specialise in maintenance free, timber sash windows. One of the key benefits of our replacement windows is that they are easy to install and can be installed from inside into the existing frame. This means that our windows can be fitted by anyone with a bit of DIY knowledge.

Timber Sash Windows

We’re delighted to offer our customers a unique timber sash window product. The reason that our timber sash product is unique is that it requires no painting once installed — something that tends to put a pretty big smile on our customers faces that are used to repainting their sash windows every couple of years.

As well as the no painting required, we offer our windows in Oak, Maple and Pine, with a range of stains available to suit the character of your property.

The sash mechanism we use is also specifically designed with ultra-low maintenance in mind. We use mortise-and-tenon joints which prevent sagging within the mechanism over time (something that’s usually a headache with sash windows) and mean that your sash window will move as freely in year ten as the day it was installed.

We serve the whole of the UK from our base in Nottinghamshire when it comes to timber sash windows, but most of our customers are located in the South, particularly in London and Surrey. We have estimators and fitters dotted around the country, from Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, right down to Chiswick, Ealing, Fulham and Hammersmith.
